Senator Edward M. Kennedy intends to endorse the presidential candidacy of Senator Barack Obama during a rally on Monday in Washington.
The is a real shocker to the Clinton campaign who was hoping if they did not get his endorcement that no one got it. With both Caroline and Ted coming out for Obama it is a great boost. With that endorcement comes contributions and most of all delegates.
This is a double wammy for the Clinton's.
Yes it is, and is true justice against their attacks and dirty tricks. I think the one from Caroline Kennedy is truly extraordinary.
Ted Kennedy needs a new face like Obama that he could manipulate to his wishes.
Hillary is seasoned and Obama gladly will accept the advises of the old dinosaur that has used super glue to sit in his chair in the Senate.
Why are we so surprised?
Ted is far left, after all.
I admit I am surprised, too.
I don't think Hillary has done anything irregular in the campaign and Obama has no high ground to stand on. But he has something Hillary will never have. This is a patriarchal society, after all.
Annie, don't tell me Hillary is winning this one for all the little girls out there because she isn't. She has no compunction about putting her husband out there as if he's the one running for office and then scooping up his votes. This is not the feminists candidate.
It was on a November day in 2005, near the end of Mr. Obama's first year in the Senate, when he was asked to deliver a keynote address at a ceremony commemorating the 80th birthday of Robert F. Kennedy. The invitation was extended by Ethel Kennedy, whom at the time referred to Mr. Obama as "our next president."
"I think he feels it. He feels it just like Bobby did," Mrs. Kennedy told me that day, comparing her late husband's quest for social justice to Mr. Obama's. "He has the passion in his heart. He's not selling you. It's just him."
Wow. Did not expect to see this headline today. I thought if it would come, it would be later. Looks like the Kennedy's are hedging all bets early.
This isn't a hedged bet, this is just a straight up endorsement. The time is now. It's been a long time, but you've got to remember the Teddy was almost the nominee/president (but for the unpleasantness). It was a serious family with serious abilities. Now we see the passing of the torch.
The Kennedys as usual squeezing the votes.
I think they feel pretty confident in their endorcement that this guy is going to the convention and get the nomination. The backroom politics are underway and it doesn't really look good for Hillary. They Kennedy's carried old politics power with modern politics players. Thats what happen with these big families.
Unbelievable what has occurred in the last week or so. This keeps getting better for Obama and keeps getting worse for Hillary. Oi vey.
Unbelievable what has occurred in the last week or so. This keeps getting better for Obama and keeps getting worse for Hillary. Oi vey.
You can say that again! :o)
This is huge. Not surprising if you look at where Kennedy stands on the issues. The democratic icon had, like Obama, the good judgment to vote against the illegal pre-emtive Iraq war from the beginning. He has long stood for equality regardless of sex, race or sexual orientation going even further than Obama and as far as Al Gore in gay rights issues. His wealth of experience in the senate a the second-longest serving member, comes as a huge boost to Obama's credibility.
Politics, politics. Teddy is the new father image for Obama.
This is awesome news! When I listen to Mr. Obama, I see a passion for the people of this country that can not be faked. He is driven and concise in everything he does and says. He may not have all the experience that H.C. has, but as we all know, experience isn't everything. I do not believe H.C. will be a good fit as the leader of our great country. Mr. Obama has a fire that I have not seen since the JFK days!
Oh, dear. The same happened with Perot and Dean. We are emotional people.
It is also a good bet girl publisher that Obama may not have the experience, but he is also not a practiced liar and a manipulating politician such as Hillary. It does my heart good to see her fall by the way side.
I doubt she is gone yet, folks, but it is looking better. I am really more impressed with Caroline's endorsement than Teddy's. She has not been in the habit of endorsing candidates. It must mean she sees what so many of us see.
They were only waiting to see which way the winds were blowing. They will expect something from him for the endorsement. Nothing the Kennedys do is free.
They will expect something from him for the endorsement. Nothing the Kennedys do is free.
I suppose everyone has a personal agenda when it comes to doing favours. There is always something expected in return, even when it is not expressed. I wonder what there's will be.
It's the Kennedys, it will not be cheap nor easy.
The Kennedys expect success in return. They expect a good faith effort towards the goals he espouses. Indeed, that is neither cheap nor easy.
Of course, Uncle Teddy will be the shadow President, Obama will feel tied up to him.
Give me a break. You guys said the same thing about Oprah.
I respect Oprah a lot. She worked hard for what she is and own.
I don't respect Ted Kennedy.
Wow, stick beats orbs any day, eh?
"A Big time endorsement for Obama, from the Head of the Kennedy Clan"
Big deal. I don't have any respect for Uncle Ted.
Moonflower,
This is the kind of rumor that is not needed. His father who left him and his mother when he was two was muslin. He is a Christian. If in fact you are new to this you need to do some reading before you spread what is just a Republican/Kerrey slam. Oh yea it has ran around on the interned but check out snopes and it will tell you that it is not true.
Rumor?
Why Obama does not use his middle name?
He probably uses it about as often as Ronald Reagan used his... which was never. Can you honestly remember his middle name? Or did you have to look it up?
He didn't choose his middle name, so why should he use it if it is of little relevance, Determined?
I have never used my middle name since I left school. What has that got to do with anything?
So his name is Hussein? His father was Muslim, remember, and parents choose the names for their kids, in case you didn't know that.
Even if he were a Muslim, so what? I hope you are not a Christian because to be judging everyone the same, purely based on their race or religion, is not only grossly stereotypical but pretty racist to me, and doesn't sound very tolerant or Christian, in fact.
You are not Barak, a US Senator and aspiring to be President of the USA.
Do you remember Dubia?
The way I look at it he is well worth giving a four year chance and then if he doesn't meet expectations make him a one term prez and move on. He cannot do any more harm then has been done by Bush. His 8 years will go down in the annuls as the worse President and world leader ever.
Oh, Sally, Jimmy Carter is the worst that happened to our country during his Presidency and after because he like Bill like to talk too much.
Sally,
The Presidency of the United States of America is not the kind of job for Trainees or OJT.
This business is not of Trial and Error. Itsn't recycling. And if all the nominees from the actual administration were subject to micro investigation, so be it.
I don't want surprises like Fidel Castro that had a rosary around his neck, prayed and his roots were a loose cannon. The advantage in the USA is that we can remove a President in Cuba was a different story.
I am Catholic and will vote for a Mormon. I like open fields and Obama has a lot to explain and no one can give me the manure that is racism or whatever.
And Sally.......Ted Kenndy who is going to be the ghost President, it is very obvious.
Now Obama owes the Kennedy clan.
And for us Cuban-Americans the Kennedy clan involvement means again to have the nightmare of remembering how they failed to us leaving the Brigade 2506 in the beach of Giron.
determinedoa1,
At least that encounter did not lead to a five year war with no end in sight for reasons other then truthfully introduced to the American people. Carter was a victim of a Washington Congress that was unhappy with his outsider approach to running our country. He was what the people wanted but not the Washington insiders. We were the losers in that exchange. If you would look back and study on his Energy policy of the 70's and that Policy had not been totally dismantled we would have been much closer to fuel independence then we are today.
Obviously you are not an admirer of Kennedy and there will be nothing I can say to change that, but again he has been re-elected by his constituency over and over so someone thinks he is representing them. I unlike you do not see Ted as a ghost President at all, I see him as the last of a long line of civic minded people and his time is drawing near and he wants to just one more time see someone in the WH that reflects what his brothers stood for and believe me our country needs this kind of optimism for a change. I for one have had all the negative bull that I can stand.
Sally, Ted Kennedy brings to me this name = Mary Jone Kopechne/Chappaquiddick and his behavior with women. Remember that I was in Cuba during the Bay of Pig fiasco and John like his brother Ted backed up at the last minute.
How about Laura Bush's killing someone while Drunk. You want to bring up ancient history. How about Bush's use of alcohol and drugs which I am not convinced he hasn't resorted back to one of them. Come on is that all you can do determinedoa1 is bring up something that happened 40+ years ago.
I have no idea why you were in Cuba, but that whole bay of pigs thing was set up by Nixon and Kennedy inherited it. It still did not lead to a war with no end.
That's the trouble with living in the past which cannot ever be changed. People become fossils to history, hanging back there in resentment and anger while doing nothing really positive with their present either because the past keep blocking the way.
Very sad, determined0a1 because living in the past robs us of a future.
Check your facts, Nixon was not the previous President of Kennedy.
Mrs Bush stayed in the site of the accident until the police came. Uncle Ted was drunk and called his friends first. Patrick Kennedy crashed his car @ 3 a.m. "going to vote". Typical.
About the addition of alcohol by our President, he got help and the drugs hasn't been confirmed. Obama did it also..
Ms. Cyprah,
Good morning.
If Uncle Ted is not sitting in the Judiciary Committee and opposing the Justices and Judges that I favor I could forget, but....he is passing judgement in people that had and have impeccable lives.
And.....thanks for your advise.
A good man does not necessarily make a good justice.
And a US Senator with a dubious past should not be passing judgment and personal insults to the nominees on live TV.
Check your facts, Nixon was not the previous President of Kennedy.
You seem to forget that Nixon was VP under Eisenhower. While VP he was instrumental in planning the Bay of Pigs invasion with Howard Hunt (CIA). That plan was delayed until after Kennedy took office.
Then we have to blame WJC for the invasion to Iraq.
Clinton was not sitting at the table actually drafting the plans. Besides, Bush threw out the plans that the DoD had developed and had Rummie and his boys think up the masterpiece that we got! Or did you forget that too?
GWB found the blueprints of Clinton in Iraq or was it another baloney to gain the votes of the Iraqis-Americans and....why the surprise? GWB's campaigned under change of regime in Iraq inspired by WJC
Well, well,
With all the noises of Hill, Obama, Pinochio, et al we are missing an important nomination:
Hopefully he will substitute John F. Kerry In Massachusetts.
